Foam War is over...

Today I got the rest of the foam up and some what cleaned out. There is still a few areas in the corners that I have to dig up. I also have to peel the foam off the side walls. I even had some time to cut a few of the front bulk heads. Almost made a big bobo when I was cutting the port front area, thought I was cutting the wall but I was cutting the bottom hull..... Thank god I realized and stoped. Well have to work bell to bell for the next few days so no work is gonna get done until Thursday..

Well today with the help of a great friend Rob, Who must have lost 50lbs in sweat today, we got alot of the foam up. The bow section is done the bottom is done and we only have about 3 feet remaining on the starboard side.

My buddy Rob busting his hump to help a friend out!!!

Remaining Floor is up..

With the help of my buddy Shawn I was able to cut and pull up the front part of the deck. I got the fish box and the live pulled out without damaging either one of them. Not sure if I will reuse either one of them or just use them as molds to make new ones. Either way they are in good shape.

Now to the foam..... Man I can't believe how much foam Correct Craft put in this boat. There is so much wasted space. So far I have pull 6 60gal trash bags full of foam. Wish I weighted it all as I took it out. Trash went out today so they took the first 6 bags. I still have the whole front to empty and the left (port) side left.

This is how I felt today!!

Let the foam party begin...

Got home from work today around 5:30 and had some left over energy, so I decided to start tearing out the foam under the floor. It is not an easy task. When people say Correct Craft boats are built well, they are not BSing. There are fiberglass ribs every 12 inches or so from bow to stern. I was using a saws all with a 12inch blade to cut the foam in slices. After I cut it all up I had to use a pry bar to pop up the foam in little pieces. This is going to take to a week or two to get it all cleared. There is one good thing I did notice, the foam was bone dry under the first inch of wet foam. Hopefully this means the water damage is minimal. Working all day tomorrow so nothing new is going to happen......

Floor is Out.

I woke up early this morning and my shoulder is doing allot better. Its a bit sore but don't think any thing is really wrong with it. I decided to try and get that floor flipped out of the boat so I can start cutting foam in the next few days. Floor came out with no issues this morning and I was able to drag it to the back yard and post it up against the shed. I did a little digging in the underfloor structure and it looks like it is going to be a little bit of a pain to get all the foam out. I think Correct Craft used a wood frame then pored foam over the wood, so I have to figure out how to get to the wood to cut it. We will see what it brings in the next few days.

Floor Comes up, Shoulder goes Down!!!!!

I had a plan today to get the floor cut out and out of the boat. Well the cutting part went good....I used my circular saw to cut most of the deck and my air saw to cut the areas that where to tight to fit the circular. I measured 2 inches from the inside wall and cut that line, it happened to line up with the nonskid on the floor so it made for a great reference line. Pulling it out, well not so good. It was attached in the back by a random bolt, once I found where it was I had to get my air saw in there to cut it out. Get that all done and start lifting the floor till it breaks itself free. It really was not hard at all.

The floor right before I cut it
So as I am lifting the floor out of the boat. I get it up and over the rear gunnel and it slips and that's where the shoulder goes down... My shoulder twisted and popped and down I go. No clue what I did to it but I will head to the doctor tomorrow and find out. So there the floor sits half on the rear gunnel and half still in the boat. I think i will wait for my Dad or Shawn to help me get it out.

Starting to get it out

There she sits while I am rolling in pain from my shoulder.

Bulkhead Removel

The day started at 8am and the heat here in the FLA was ridiculous all ready. So I just removed the rotten bulkheads today. I was a little miffed when I took them out to find the factory bulkheads still there under the new rotten ones. Now I have to cut the factory ones out to get a clean surface for rebuilding them.

So the fun begins.........

Today I started in on the full restoration of my 1981 Correct Craft 23' Fish Nautique. I picked this boat up about a week ago and plan to do a full on resto to it. Pull the floor, change the floor layout, change the location of the gas tank and anything else I can think will improve this vessel.
Today was just a cleaning day. The boat has been sitting for who knows how long so it was full of pine needles and anything else you can think of....
